Vision for Union Church

Union Primitive Baptist

of the

Lord Jesus Christ

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:14)

The Pastor’s vision for the church is for us to be abundantly and increasingly loving and serving the Lord Jesus Christ by giving (1) glory to God, (2) gospel to the broken-hearted, and (3) goodness to all men.

Glory to God – This primarily involves worship, and includes:

  • Fervent and frequent prayer
  • Heartfelt singing, joyous or mournful, but taken seriously
  • Reverence for God’s word
  • Asking for God’s presence
  • Waiting for the Lord’s return

Gospel to the brokenhearted – This primarily involves witness, teaching and outreach, and includes:

  • Preaching Jesus Christ, and Him crucified
  • Our welcome to visitors
  • Our invitation for folks to visit
  • Our identification with the Lord as disciples in our daily lives
  • Materials or information we might distribute
  • Contributing to the spread of the gospel
  • Sound counsel from the Bible

Goodness to all men (especially those who are of the household of faith) – This primarily involves work to help one another, and others

  • Ministering to others in prayer
  • Visiting the widows, fatherless, sick, and imprisoned
  • Feeding, clothing, or otherwise helping those in need
  • Providing a good, safe place for children to hear the truth in love
  • Build friendships within the church
  • Increasing fellowship with our sister churches

  1. What songbook is used in your church?

Also, do the ministers have prepared sermons?

    Do you pay your ministers?

Do you have classes to learn the Bible?

I apologize for taking so long to respond.
We use the Old School Hymnal #12 (http://www.oldschoolhymnal.com).
The ministers prepare themselves in prayer, in spirit and in study.
Typically they are paid in a non-contractual manner (through individual donations and/or from the church collection). I have known some ministers that served without compensation.
Union meets each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for regular services (singing and preaching). Each Wednesday night we meet at 7:00 in the lunch room area in a more open forum. We pray and discuss/answer biblical questions. We also try to cover a chapter per week reading through the bible. We are currently in Isaiah. You are welcome to come and visit at any of our meetings.
